you give it to your cat...just take some and either cover a toy in it,or just sprinkle it around you cat, or just put some in a tiny pile...its safe to eat, so if s/he eats it, no worries...if its possible, i HIGHLY suggest buying a catnip plant and growing your own, its much more potent so you use less, and you know what went into growing it! my cat refuses store bought now..i dont mind, less buying more saving!

Well, if you are talking about the canned catnip... then you shake the can and call your cat and he/she should come hoping for a treat.
